The Lord Mayor of York, Councillor John Galvin, was the guest of honour at the official opening and launch of The Cooking Rooms, the brand new state of the art cookery school, at the Eco Business Centre, in Clifton Moor, York.
Nigel Brown, BBC Radio Humbersides Resident Celebrity chef, and one of the chefs who will be hosting classes at The Cooking Rooms, got the evening off to a fitting start by entertaining the Lord Mayor, Lady Mayoress and other guests with a series of mouth-watering cookery demonstrations and tastings, rounded off by a spectacular Christmas pudding cheesecake.
Owner Luke Norbury, the inspiration behind The Cooking Rooms, wanted to share his knowledge and love of cooking by bringing a broad range of food and drink experiences to people of all ages and abilities, in a relaxed and welcoming setting.
The Cooking Rooms will be working with a panel of respected and well known local chefs and tutors to deliver classes that will cover a whole range of culinary interests, from parent and toddler cookery sessions, Chocolate Master Classes, and cuisines from around the world, to team building cookery days. The courses also cover a wide range of specialist skills including knife skills and butchery.
The ethos of The Cooking Rooms is to Learn, Cook, Share and Luke said: I feel very strongly that cooking brings people together and is one of the most sociable activities there is. Im passionate about cooking and I hope that The Cooking Rooms will help other people to develop their passion for food and cooking too.
Not only will local chefs be delivering the courses at The Cooking Rooms, but local ingredients will be used wherever possible. The Cooking Rooms chefs will work with Yorkshire producers and Deliciouslyorkshire, giving them some of the best produce to work with, which will also help to promote local food producers, boost the economy and help the environment by minimising food miles.
